Tram line 3: Merisata & Eira

The last two weekends have taken me to the beautiful green waterfront areas of Eira, Merisata and Kaivopuisto. This weekend past was the colourful Helsinki Pride, which started in Senate Square and finished with festivities throughout Kaivopuisto, while the weekend before was Finnish midsummer (Juhannus) with seaside bonfires to celebrate the longest day of the year.

While these areas are particularly lively and event-packed around this time of year, they’re also a perfect place to spend other summery days, as they’re full of picturesque parks, breezy seaside walkways and trendy cafes and shops. Here are some of my photos from these areas over the past few weekends.

Kaivopuisto is one of the biggest parks in Helsinki and often has events and activities throughout the extensive parklands.

Merisata is the jumping off point for several island cruises, including waterbuses to the popular summer islands of Pihlajasaari.

Eira is sought-after residential area, full of old apartments built in the Jugend style- similar to Art Nouveau.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little insight into summer in the Finnish capital. In my next post I’ll be exploring some of the perfect little islands just off the coast of Helsinki.
